Captain America

This is just so you can see the difference in size between the normal Shield pin, the tie pin and the ear-ring.

This is the label that came with the ear ring. The bag it came in was price labelled "Heroes World" $4:00

Notice the scanner bar has been replaced by the 50th anniversary logo.  This only appeared on comics sold through the direct market (comic shops) and not from newsagents or supermarkets.

Captain America was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby in 1940 for Timely Comics.  The character was revived in the early 1960's in the Avengers issue #4 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby (Stan Lee had been the nephew of the owner of Timely Comics and had been the tea boy at the time Cap was created.)  He then appeared as the co-star to Iron Man is "Tales of Suspense" issues #59 to #99 when that comic was renamed "Captain America" on issue #100 (This was done because there was a sales tax on all issue #1 comics, so publishers would continue issue numbering from old comic titles, or in some cases just make them up.)

Steve Rogers has twice changed his name and costume, once as Nomad (issues #180 - #184) and then as the Captain (issues #332 -  #350)

This is an advert for the original Sentinel of Liberty pin that was produced by Timely Comics in the 1940's and was recreated by Planet.  I've seen them sell for around $250. It seems to have been a generic type design because I have a Dick Tracy pin with the same crouching eagle.
